DESCRIPTION
The caliber 155 mm has been worldwide recognized as the ultimate caliber for general fire support artillery weapons, because of its range and efficiency. The American 155 mm M114 howitzer with its original 23 caliber length ordnance has maximum range of 14600 meters, and is outdistanced by more modern standard 155 mm ammunition. The fact that thousands of 39 caliber howitzers are still in service all over the world confirms that this ballistic system is well recognized as a general fire support artillery weapon for the ranges up to 32 km.
AMMUNITION
The weapon is using following ammunition:
- HE ERFB – BT projectile used with charges M4A2 zones 6 and 7
- HE ERFB – BT projectile, which can be used with M119A1 charge, zone 8 and M3 charge, Zone 9
- Standard 155 mm M107 projectile, with bag powder charges M3A1, zones 1 to 5, M4A2 – Zones 3 to 7, and M119A1 zone 8
